Electrical Power Network Engineer Apprenticeship (Foundation Degree)

We want you to grow, to be challenged, and to succeed. To do that Northern Powergrid
is offering a tailored programme to become a fully qualified Electrical Power Network
Engineer. Funded by us, you will also work towards achieving a two-year Foundation
Degree in Electrical Power Engineering.

As a Power Network Engineer Apprentice, you’ll gain a broad range of invaluable experience
and knowledge in a variety of structured placements and formal courses.

Once you’ve successfully completed all required elements of your training
programme you’ll be appointed to a challenging and rewarding Operational or non-
Operational engineering role within our business.

Operational Roles

Operational roles are predominantly field-based and involve working directly with and on the electricity network. These roles can be involved in a range of activities including the construction of new areas of the network, maintenance and repair of assets, and work to ensure the system remains reliable and resilient. A strong safety ethic and passion for the great outdoors is a must for these roles.

Non-Operational Roles

Non-operational roles are primarily office-based and stretch right across the business, including areas such as policy development, investment planning, power system design, project design and project management. You will be directly influencing how we develop the electricity network to meet customers’ needs as the UK energy economy decarbonizes and reliance on electricity increases. You will need to be a creative technical thinker, with strong analytical skills and an inquisitive mind. Teamwork is key to successful delivery as you will be working in cross-functional teams to deliver successful outcomes.
